My family and my husband's family are both of Scottish descent, so I thought I'd weave some Scottish tartan-inspired scarves.
Technically, tartan is different from plaid in that it is not only a specific color pattern (for each family), but it is always woven in "twill" rather than plain weave (or tabby weave).
Since I was weaving this scarf on my rigid heddle, I decided to just weave the "Wallace" pattern without the twill.
When I warp my floor loom in the future with specific family plaids, I'll be weaving tartan using the twill method.
More to come!
