"Wallace" Family Plaid Scarf

My family and my husband's family are both of Scottish descent, so I thought I'd weave some Scottish tartan-inspired scarves.

Technically, tartan is different from plaid in that it is not only a specific color pattern (for each family), but it is always woven in "twill" rather than plain weave (or tabby weave).

Since I was weaving this scarf on my rigid heddle, I decided to just weave the "Wallace" pattern without the twill.

When I warp my floor loom in the future with specific family plaids, I'll be weaving tartan using the twill method.

More to come!

Newcomb Studio loom

My new (to me) floor loom: Newcomb Studio 4-harness loom (circa 1930-40). I'm excited to weave some wider pieces [up to 45"] and more intricate designs with this loom.
